Ubisoft DRM ‘UPlay’ Could Let Hackers Take Over Your Machine!

For a few years now Ubisoft has pushed their hideous DRM system, UPlay, on gamers. It is intrusive on systems. Forces gamers to have an always on connection with Ubisoft servers, that if broken halts gameplay until it is reestablished, and really is just a huge dick to deal with. Now it has been discovered that it will allow a hacker to possibly gain control of your system. And no, that isn’t some scare tactic report from CNN trying to sell copies of Norton.

A report from Ycombinator shows that when UPlay is installed on ones machine, it installs a browser plugin that will allow for remote code execution. Let’s let that sink in for a minute… a Digital Rights Management system that is designed to prevent pirating of games, allows a third party run code WITHOUT YOUR CONSENT  and possibly take over your entire machine.

So if you have any of these Ubisoft games, check the report to see how to check whether or not if your browser has the extension.
