Take A First Look At Hailee Steinfeld In ‘Ender’s Game’ UPDATE: Army Logos, Controversy!
Summit Entertainment has just revealed a new still from their upcoming Sci-Fi adaptation Ender’s Game.
The still is fairly self explanatory, featuring Asa Butterfield as Ender Wiggin and Hailee Steinfeld as Petra Arkanian, chatting it up in the ship’s mess hall. Notice the ship’s scoreboard in the background of the image too!
Check out the image below, and let us know what you think!
In the near future, a hostile alien race (called the Formics) have attacked Earth. If not for the legendary heroics of International Fleet Commander, Mazer Rackham (Ben Kingsley), all would have been lost. In preparation for the next attack, the highly esteemed Colonel Graff (Harrison Ford) and the International Military are training only the best young children to find the future Mazer. Ender Wiggin (Asa Butterfield), a shy, but strategically brilliant boy is pulled out of his school to join the elite.
Arriving at Battle School, Ender quickly and easily masters increasingly difficult war games, distinguishing himself and winning respect amongst his peers. Ender is soon ordained by Graff as the military’s next great hope, resulting in his promotion to Command School. Once there, he’s trained by Mazer Rackham, himself, to lead his fellow soldiers into an epic battle that will determine the future of Earth and save the human race.
What do you think? Are you looking forward to the film? Ender’s Game opens on November 1st.
UPDATE: Summit has also revealed the logos of the four armies featured in the film. Check those out below!
Controversy is also beginning to surround the upcoming film. It’s no secret that Ender’s Game author Orson Scott Card holds heavy (heavy) anti-Gay views, even stating: “Marriage has only one definition, and any government that attempts to change it is my mortal enemy. I will act to destroy that government and bring it down.”
Card’s already been in the news lately after being tasked to write on DC Comics forthcoming Adventures of Superman. A massive petition to get him off the book has already nearly hit its goal of 15,000 signatures.
This poses an interesting problem for Summit Entertainment and the Ender’s Game film. Just how involved does Card get? An extremely intriguing article on THR wonders if we’ll be seeing him at conventions at all; getting a few thousand people into a room with someone as controversial as Card is bound to start trouble (which would be nothing but bad for the movie).
So what do you think? Are you planning to see the film? Or will you be skipping it because of Card’s personal views? What did you think of DC’s response to the controversy?
