Let’s Play Arcade! 001 – Introductions
Welcome to the very first episode of Let’s Play Arcade!
I’ve had a phenomenal time putting together the Xbox Game Passengers podcast over the past six months. It turns out that when you’re playing games that are randomly selected, you can come across some absolute gems that you may not have even glanced at otherwise. It’s been an extremely rewarding experience, and as it turns out, the very best part has reconnecting with friends and chatting with them about these shared gaming experiences.
Some of my very favourite episodes of Xbox Game Passengers have featured my close friend and former roommate, John. A few years back we lived together and were pretty inseparable, but these days we live hours away from each other and both lead busy and opposite lives. Over the years, talking over anything but iMessage became rare, and actually seeing each other even rarer.
We’ve always held the same interests, and when Apple revealed their Apple Arcade gaming service (if you’re unfamiliar, learn more about it here) back in March, we were both unbelievably excited to see what it had to offer, and over the next few months, the basis for Let’s Play Arcade was formed.
Let’s Play Arcade will essentially act as a sister show to Xbox Game Passengers. Rather than Xbox games, every other Wednesday John and I (no alternating guests, it’s the same duo each episode) will dissect and discuss a single, randomly selected game that’s available on Apple Arcade. We don’t talk about the game at all before we record, so we’ll be learning each other’s thoughts and impressions live on air. At the end of each episode, we’ll also randomly draw the game for our next offering, so you’ll always know what’s coming up on the next adventure.
Part of the appeal of doing this show was just getting to “hang out” more often. Back in the day we’d be able to meet up for a beer, but because of where we live at this point, it just can’t really happen. For each episode of Let’s Play Arcade!, we’ll also be cracking open (and sort-of reviewing) a random beer as well. Neither of us really know anything about beer (or drink it all that often), so while we don’t know what anyone has to gain from us talking about them, we at least hope that it’ll be entertaining.
Each episode will also feature an ‘after show’, where we’ll basically drivel on about whatever we feel like.
We have a few episodes in the bank already, and we’re super excited for you to hear them. You can listen to our first episode below — we don’t specifically review a game here, but it’ll help you get to know us, as well as learn our initial impressions of the Apple Arcade service.
