How to Suck Less at Gears of War 2 – Week 9: Security

This was the first. Upon returning home from the midnight release of this game, this was the first multiplayer map I played on. I wasn’t alone, and I certainly wasn’t alone when I found that you can’t roll through the lasers. It was pretty funny, actually.

Anyway,

THIS WEEK: SECURITY

TIP #1 – WEAPONZZZZ

Mortar / Machine Gun Turret

If your team is lacking that extra something, you should all make the effort to get one of these. Mortars are ideal because of the map’s size. There’s also not a lot of space to hide. You can even lead the enemies into the hallway for a surprise a trap.

Grenades

Whether it’s poison or frag, you should always make use of these.

Pistol

Depending on who you are, picking one of the pistols up could change the course of the battle.

Flamethrower

Yet another little something that can spice up your game.

TIP #2 – THE SWITCH

Here it is:

Learn where they are and when to press them, and you can easily get the upper hand in any match.
By pressing the switch, you’re shutting the lasers down that guard both the flamethrower spawn, and the Mortar/Flamethrower spawn. But be careful, after a certain amount of time, the laser comes back. So, you can either trap yourself, or strategically trap yourself. Just make sure your team knows where you are.

TIP #3 – STUCK IN THE MIDDLE WITH YOU

Most of the main battles take place in the center of the map…what’s new? Like most other maps, once you win the battle here, you’ve taken a major strongpoint in the map itself. It also gives you less to worry about. Just make sure you work as a team to get it.

Once you and your people are a little more safe, you’ll need to watch the hallway entrances and the enemy spawn point. You can pan out and search for any survivors, or just plain split up into pairs; granted that you have a full team, that is.

If it’s just you and another person, and if that person is anything like Gilmore, just listen for a scream.

TIP #4 – POOP WHERE THEY SPAWN

There are two very likely tagging spots: the spawn points and the hallway. So if you’re not looking already, watch out in those locations. If you want to get original, try tagging in wide open areas, as well as weapon spawn points.
