Arcues Delivers Judgement As August’s Mythical Pokemon
Rolling into August, Arceus is the next Mythical Pokemon to be featured in the ongoing Pokemon 20 event. Available through codes exclusively available at GameStop, (following Mew and Darkrai before it), the apparent god of Pokemon can now be ours to control.
Introduced as the fourth and final Mythical Pokemon in the fourth generation of games consisting of Pokemon Diamond, Pearl and Platinum, Arceus is said to be the creator of the Pokemon world. Originally needing the Azure Flute to open up the Hall of Origin, which literally would literally open up a stairway to heaven from the Spear Pillar, we would encounter the mighty Pokemon of creation at level 80, the strongest wild Pokemon in the game’s history. At least, that was the plan, but the Azure Flute was never officially distributed, with Nintendo opting to just handing out Arceus through events instead. Using cheat devices is the only way to encounter the Pokemon as originally intended, which sounds completely worth it since it’s the only way most of us will ever get to encounter it in such an epic fashion.
As the only Normal type Mythical creature at the time of its release, Arceus has the unique Multitype ability to allow it to become any type its trainer wanted. By equipping it with an elemental plate, Arceus remains one of the game’s most versatile characters since it can literally cover any type weaknesses on any given team. Then again, keeping it as a Normal type would be worth it to retain your item slot for other strategies, but the fact that its signature move, Judgment, also changes type depending on the plate held, means handing it a Plate holds huge advantages for the Pokemon god.
From August 1-24, Arceus can be downloaded at level 100 with Judgment, Recover, Hyper Beam and Perish Song. As with the previous Mythical Pokemon, Arceus will also have his own card and pin set and special merchandise, giving us plenty to buy as we start the second half of the year.
Now that generation four is wrapped up, it’s on to Black and White! Which Pokemon are you looking forward to most as the countdown reaches its second half?
