Playstation Store Gets A Redesign!
I’ve been rather torn on the Playstation Store for the past few years. On one hand, there’s some great content inside, and Playstation Plus is one of the best deals in gaming. On the other hand, you’re very unlikely to be able to find any of that content due to the way the store works.
There’s almost nothing featured on the front page in the current store. Searching is nearly useless, as when searching for a specific title, you’ll often have to sort through dozens and dozens of preview videos and add-on DLC before you’ll actually get what you’re looking for. Download management is non-existent, and the manner in which to download previous purchases is painstaking at best.
But in all that negativity, comes a positive: Sony has announced that the store is getting a redesign, and it will launch on October 23rd (or October 17th in Europe)!
Eurogamer states that the current tiled look is all but gone, instead replaced with a more elegant Metro styled interface. Instead of tiles leading to more tiles, leading to more tiles, selecting “Games” will lead you too a much easier to follow list of options. Filtering by price (!), genre, rating, and other options are also included.
That sorry excuse for a search menu is gone too, replaced with what is said to be a very usable replacement. Spelling mistakes and abbreviations are all okay, and the search is said to get smarter the more people use it.
The entire store is also HTML5, so it should be very fast, and very easy for Sony to update on their end!
It may be sad, but I’m excited. How about you?
