Big Screen Adaptation Of Image Comics ‘Area 52’ Gets A Writer

Johnny Rosenthal (Bad Santa 2) has been hired by Summit to write the big screen adaptation of Brian Haberlin’s Area 52. The project has been in development at several studios and production companies almost since the comic was published back in 2001 by Image. The property was picked up by Summit last year with Red 2‘s Lorenzo di Bonaventura and Mark Vahradian producing alongside Benderspink’s J.C. Spink, Chris Bender and Jake Weiner.

“The story follows a group of misfit soldiers stationed at a remote military base in Antarctica known as Area 52 that guard a storage facility in which top-secret, other-worldly technologies and weapons are kept and analysed. A murderous alien, hatched from an artifact, stalks the soldiers, who must defeat it.”
