Marvel May Be Introducing Dr. Strange In ‘Thor: The Dark World’
For quite some time now it’s been well known that Marvel Studios has wanted to make a Doctor Strange movie. They even have a completed script by Thomas Dean Donnelly and Joshua Oppenheimer that was sent out to directors over a year ago. Well, this rumor seemed to slip past a few people. It seems that The Playlist recorded a podcast a while back that mentioned that they might know something about a sorcerer surpreme’s appearance in Thor: The Dark World. The most interesting part of this? It’s more than just a cameo. Screenrant broke it down like this:
The Playlist claimed that Natalie Portman’s character Jane Foster could be working alongside Dr. Strange in a similar capacity as she did with Stellan Skarsgård’s Dr. Erik Selvig in the first film, and that Strange would be playing a big part in “all three acts” of the film, as opposed to being relegated to a cameo-type introduction. He would play a scientist (he’s a genius neurosurgeon in the comics) and someone who’s deeply interested in Foster’s stories and knowledge about Asgard and Thor.
Actually, I lied about something. The most interesting part of this was the rumor of who Marvel Studios apparently wanted Joel Edgerton (Warrior) as their Doctor Strange. The key word being “wanted”. They may have moved on and found another actor at this point if this turns out to be true. And apparently there’s quite a few bits and pieces to this rumor that could lead to it being true. The same source apparently leaked out the information about The Falcon appearing Captain America: The Winter Soldier prior to Anthony Mackie’s casting. Let’s also not forget the Orb Of Agamatto that appeared in Odin’s vault in Thor.
The Agamatto objects are the source of Strange’s supernatural powers, and according to The Playlist’s information, one of those objects could come crashing down on earth – thus explaining Strange’s cinematic origins. Is Marvel planning on introducing their “Phase Three” characters early? Well, that’d be a smart decision and so far Marvel Studios definitely has a track record of making smart decisions with their movies. So, what are your guys thoughts on this one?
