Dark Corners GoW Map Pack First Impressions!

The long awaited Dark Corners Map pack was released a couple of weeks ago. It took a while to figure out all seven maps and play them to get the full experience. Let me just say that every map pack that’s been released for Gears 2 has 1up’d its predecessor. What’s so good about this one? Well, it’s new, it’s fun, and there’s War Machine.

War Machine

I don’t know about you guys and girls, but I was a fan of War Machine. I was glad to see that I would get to play it on Gears 2. It’s not entirely different, but the atmosphere along with the lighting has changed, all for a good cause.

A Boom Shield has been placed in the center of the map and the Gatic Gun has been removed  and replaced by a Machine Gun Turret.

I find that the glitches I encountered in Gears 1 still exist in Gears 2, such as:

Rubber-banding
Not able to jump off ledge
Not able to climb up ledge

Simple things, I know, but these simple things have lead to countless deaths I wish could have been avoided on the old maps. Be forewarned (you just have been).

Highway

This map can prove to be difficult to snipe on because of the occasional ground-shaking that happens for no apparent reason. My theories? Well, it could be a COG attack or that lonely Brumac that walks in the background pondering whatever a Brumac ponders about.

There’s many corners, turns, and dead ends that evidently are a haven for cover, or death. This map was one of the easiest to do horde on. So you achievement hunters, go for this map first to get your spirits up before entering the other maps.

Allfathers Garden

With two Longshots, a Bow, and a Boomshot, this map can get dangerous. Sniping locations do exist, you just have to watch out for where your enemy is. If you’re having a tough time doing that, the best part about this map is that you can stick to the back of the group while still retaining both cover and the line of sight with enemies.

Just make sure you know all the ins and outs of this map because it’ll greatly help you in the future. Your job, relationships, Gears of War 2: everything. Oh yeah, and make sure to laugh at anyone who spawns and immediately starts running the wrong way. That means YOU, DarknessOrchid.
