Teabag Prevention’s take on Left 4 Dead 2!

NOTE: What I played may or may not have been the finished product. There are no screencaps because, I mean really, you’ve probably seen all that there is to show already. It wasn’t like I was taking pics while playing either. I was into the game. Hardcore. It sucked me in. Now I’m going to suck you in…to the game.

There’s been a lot of bashing on Left 4 Dead 2 recently. I’m sure you know by now that most fans of the franchise would rather have Left 4 Dead DLC than a sequel. Fans also complain how the new game looks like the old game. Fans also complain about everything. So what’s different about L4D2? Well, there’s a few things…

Upgradeable ammunition

I found this little perk interesting, but at the same time I think it took away from the realism of a zombie apocalypse.  I just hope there’s an on and off button.

Basically, you pick up special ammunition just like you would pick up regular ammunition, only when you fire your primary weapon, whatever zombie you hit catches on fire. Keep in mind it doesn’t last forever. I’m not sure whether you can fire only so many shots with it or if there’s just a time span for it, a-la Mario’s fireballs. If there was no timespan, you could probably just fire no shots until you run across a Tank or a horde of zombies, then go to town.

Melee Weapons

I don’t believe the game was done upon playing it therefore I cannot fairly judge the effectivity of frying pans, axes, etc. When I DID see a fellow teammate use the frying pan, it didn’t do much good. That could be one of two things:
1. It sucks and it’s just a ploy to make it seem like there’s something new in the game.
2. The zombie was too far away.
I’m leaning towards #2.

I did get a hold of the ax only to drop it when a Hunter pounced on top of me. I thought, “Where mah ax go?!” later to see my girlfriend running up ahead of it thinking I didn’t see her.

Charger

This thing really scared the crap out of me. Let me explain first!
The chapter we were playing was essentially a swamp, a dark and scary swamp. When I thought we were in the clear, only because we had just got done with a horde of zombies, the Charger ran through our little group and broke us apart. THAT scared the crap out of me. After that, it was a breeze because we all focused fire on it. So while it’s not as strong as a Tank, it’s pretty damn fast – and what’s scarier than a running zombie on a mission?

Spitter

See, I had no clue this even existed upon sitting down and playing the game. I thought i saw a regular ol’ zombie until it spit a fiery liquid all over the ground. With a “What the Hell?!” here and a “Oh noes!” there, the Spitter was killed. Does it work? Yes.

New Weapons

Well, to tell you the truth, they can be barely be called new. Its the same shotgun, it just looks different. This goes for all the other weapons of course.

Characters

While they’re not Zoey, Bill, Francis, and Louis, I have to say that I can adapt to these new characters. Even if I do follow through with that, I don’t think I’ll prefer this group over the old one. Though, it was nice to see fresh faces jumping around combined with the new atmosphere.

Overall, I enjoyed my experience with L4D2. Yeah, it could’ve been what ODST is to Halo 3, but it can still be called a new game itself. Is it worth the $60? If you’re a fan, of course! If you’re not, 1. Thanks for reading this anyway!  2. Rent it before you buy. ( Assuming you already have L4D1.) If you don’t fall under #2, then I suggest buying it. It’s not like this game is a downgrade, it’s that it falls on the line between DLC and Sequel.
