Teabag Prevention: How to Suck Less at Valentines Day – 2009
June 15, 2007 2100 hours
It was a dark night. I sat, huddled away in my dungeon of a room. Flashes form the T.V. lit the room for only fractions of a second at a time. I was alone, like all summer nights at the time. There was nothing to do but play video games, so play video games I did.
It hadn’t been long since I started watching the Geekscape podcast (available on the front page and on iTunes every week!) on a regular basis. My knowledge of the great Jonathan London was scarce. But I knew one thing: His gamertag – GeekscapeDotNet.
2130 hours
The minute he signed on, I sent an invite. I didn’t think anything horrible could come out of it. Once he joined, he mentioned that he had a couple of girls on his friends list that he’s been meaning to play Gears of War with.
So there we were. The map was Canals. The girls were sisters – DarknessOrchid and AliceRavenBlade. It was Jon and I against them two. They obviously had more experience and better skill than Jonathan. Unfortunately, I wasn’t enough to stop them both. It was a fun game all around because of our common interests, and that was the prelude to something more.
(After I played with Jonathan and Jake, I played some ranked matches so I could improve. I mean, I had fun that night, but I needed my achievements. Jake’s gamerscore made me envious so I set out on a journey to raise my gamerscore to a new high — Darkness Orchid)
So as you can see, relationships between two gamers can be a competition for some. Just make sure you keep it fun.
Tip #1 – Games to Play with Your Lover
GEARS OF WAR 2
Gears 2 offers some modes to play with your significant other. These being; Co-op, Wingman, and Horde. Make sure you adjust the difficulty level to where you can both enjoy the game. Always work together and don’t ever get mad at each other, it’s just a game. You heard me.
Also, don’t move onto things like ranked matches until you’re both comfortable with each other’s skill. This avoids various arguments.
HALO 3
Custom games open the door to many possibilities. One being Rocket Race. Sure, it doesn’t sound like much, but set up a VIP match, make a course on a large map, and race each other to each destination.
Double Team is also a fun playlist. Again, make sure you’re comfortable enough with each other’s skill before entering.
Things like Forge and the ability to customize a gametype open the door to endless possibilities. Just be creative. Think of it as a gamer’s easel.
Last, but not least, Halo 3 does offer a Co-op campaign feature.
LEFT 4 DEAD
Seeing a scary movie with your significant other is a thing of the past, because really, who wants to do that if you can live it?
If you’re both geeks, chances are you’re both into zombies. Playing through the campaigns can be a really fun way to pass the time, and to play into the night.
CRACKDOWN
This might be a little more on the difficult side because it requires two 360’s. Co-op on this game can be fun because of the Super Hero concept.
So if your girlfriend isn’t into killing hookers and strippers, flying through the air as a super-powered cop can be increasingly comforting and exhilirating as you play.
SOUL CALIBUR IV
This game is a great one to play with your significant other. What makes this so is the wide horizon of ability to customize a created character. Whether it’s Galactus or some other created character, seeing them fight it out in an Imperial Star Destroyer is the geeky way to go.
TIP #2 – Long Distance?
Do something awesome and make comics, poems, notes, or even your versions of movie posters for your significant other. That way when you do see them, you’ll able to hand them a little book of love.
Other things like watching something on Netflix on your 360 while private chatting is the best substitute you can have.
But when you do see each other, make sure you do something nice.
TIP #3 – BEST PLACES TO GO THIS YEAR
These two events can be delivered as plans for you significant other.
E3 2009
This year, it’s opened to the public and you’ll be playing the most anticipated games of the future. Need I say more?
SAN DIEGO COMIC-CON 2009
These days were some of the best days of my life. Most of it is due to the fact that I spent it with my girlfriend who is also a mega-geek. You truly DO NOT want to pass this up.
